What You Will Learn:
Although many successful project management practitioners are “accidental project managers,” successful projects should not be “accidental.” Research studies have identified reasons for project failure, as well as top ten reasons for project success. By capitalizing on the major contributors to project success and avoiding the leading causes of project failure, project success should be a predictable and repeatable event, instead of a hit-and-miss occurrence.

This presentation will focus on three major contributors to project success:
• requirements management processes
• a formal project management methodology and a standardized tools and infrastructure to implement project management and
• executive management support,
as the key ingredients to CONSISTENT delivery of successful projects, AND executed through proper governance with a Program Management Office (PMO).

The PMO has become the standard infrastructure for organizations to implement project management processes. The PMO is in a strategic position to drive predictable project execution by embedding project management best practices at an enterprise-level.

These critical success factors, when implemented and achieved in collaboration with stakeholders, can lead to consistent delivery of successful projects.

About the Presenter:
Victoria S. Kumar, PMP, has over 20 years of information technology (IT) project management experience, including 10 years with IBM and 7 years in IT consulting. She is a project manager for the state of North Carolina, USA, Office of the State Controller. She holds two master's degrees: one in Pure Mathematics, and another in Computer Science. She also has PhD credits in management science from the University of Waterloo (Canada) and has earned a master's certificate in IT Project Management from George Washington University (USA).
She is a Past President of the PMI-North Carolina Chapter. She is co-founded the chapter's PMO Local Interest Group. She has been active in the PMO community, serving as a PMO program manager and as a PMO consultant for the last eight years. She is a graduate of the PMI Leadership Institute (Master's Class of 2004) and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP®).
She is a frequent speaker at PMI global congresses and at PMI Chapter Symposia.
