Abstract:
It is often said that we cannot manage what we don't measure. As project managers, we measure budgets, dates and our ability to meet these. These measurements should tell us something about the project manager. But what about the effectiveness of the project management paradigm itself?
The Value Triple Constraint says:
Value = f (scope, capability)
The value delivered is a function of the scope of the opportunity and the capability of the underlying delivery process.
Current approaches measure cost and schedule at the project level. The Value Triple Constraint measures the value delivered by project, by program and by portfolio.
It measures how well a project did and where the opportunity for improvement lies. The Value Triple Constraint helps organizations to target those areas with the greatest potential for improvement.

The Value Triple Constraint can help organizations achieve successes and measurably attribute those successes to project management.
